Food and Drink
I provide nutritious home cooked meals and snacks for children of all ages and am registered with Environmental Health. I have completed and passed the CIEH Food Safety in Catering and CIEH Healthier Food and Special Diets courses.
The menu for the week is displayed in the setting and a copy is available in advance to aid planning at home. Water is available at all times for children; with a selection of fresh juices, squash and milk being available at meals and snack time.
I like to use the vegetables and fruit which are grown in the garden in my cooking and think this gives children some understanding as to where our food comes from. We tend to the plants whilst they grow and pick them when they are ready. I also like to cook with the children and once prepared, this forms part of snack time or meal time.
We eat snacks and meals together at the dining table and I have booster seats and highchairs to meet the individual needs of the children in my care. I believe it is important to eat meals together as this encourages children to try new foods with their peers and also aids their social development. I encourage children to try new foods and flavours; particularly when we explore different cultures and countries through our snacks and meals but never force a child to eat a food. I also cater for specific dietary requirements.
Breakfast: 7.30am to 8.15am: Examples include a selection of cereal, porridge, toast, croissant, yoghurts, pancakes
Morning Snack: 10am to 10.30am: Examples include breadsticks and dips, vegetables and dips, cheese, dried fruit, popcorn, fruit skewers, raisin and chocolate cookies, milk, yoghurt.
Lunch: 12pm to 1pm: Examples include Chicken Casserole, Bolognese (Chicken or Beef), Fish Mornay and Vegetables, Shepherd’s Pie, Pasta with Ham and Peas, Chicken Chow Mein, Pizza.
Afternoon Snack: 2.30pm to 3pm: Examples include breadsticks and dips, vegetables and dips, cheese, dried fruit, popcorn, fruit skewers, raisin and chocolate cookies, milk, yoghurt.
Tea: 4.30pm to 5pm: Examples include soup, sandwiches, mini baked potatoes, paella, pitta sandwiches, boiled egg and toast.
There is always fresh fruit and vegetables offered at snack and mealtimes. I am also happy to provide homemade puree meals for babies should this be required.
